Katie Kelley

Skilled visual artist with over four years of successful experience in design and illustration across academic disciplines

Hello!
I'm Katie- a kidlit/book cover artist, aspiring medical illustrator, and all-around creative based in Boston. I am currently available for in-house or freelance work!

Informed by my academic background in pre-health and neuroscience, I'm especially passionate about finding unique and creative ways to make scientific and technical concepts more accessible. However, my work isn't by any means confined to these topics; I have a wealth of experience in numerous other areas including character design, editorial illustration, data visualization, and custom cartography.

If you're interested in commissioning me, please fill out my commission form or send me an email (linked below)!

terms & conditions

please read these in full before requesting a commission!

  • I, the artist, reserve the right to post/display commissioned works as part of my portfolio (digitally and/or physically), unless explicitly negotiated otherwise.

  • I retain all intellectual and creative rights to my work, and it may not be used for profit unless explicitly negotiated otherwise.

  • Please be communicative and provide as much detail as necessary regarding the precise needs and specifications of your project from the get-go!

  • All prices are in US dollars.

  • My starting rate is $20/hour; after reviewing a commission request, I will provide an initial estimate for the final cost of all deliverables (subject to change).

  • For commissions up to $50, payment is due up front and in full before work begins.

  • For commissions over $50, the client may choose to provide payment 50% up front and 50% upon completion.

  • I accept payment through PayPal, Venmo (@katie-kelley-24), or direct deposit (upon request).

  • Factors that may affect the final price of your commission include (but are not limited to): lead time until deadline; optimization/ formatting for printing or publishing; numerous revisions following initial approval; items commissioned for for-profit purposes; delivery of raw/working files (.AI, .PSD, .INDD, etc.).

  • Commission requests must be submitted with at least two weeks notice before your final deadline (but the more time in advance, the better, particularly for complex projects).

  • If your project is particularly extensive (e.g. branding, multi-page documents, icon sets, illustration series, etc.), I will be in touch to workshop a detailed timeline for the phases of the project, progress reviews as needed, and all deliverables.

  • Rush orders (guaranteed completion and delivery in less than two weeks' time) are possible, but will incur an additional fee starting at 15% of the final project cost; this may be subject to modification at my discretion depending on project complexity, requested turnaround time, and position in my work queue.

  • I will submit sketches/mockups for your approval (if applicable) before finalizing any graphics or illustrations; any major revisions following this initial approval will incur additional fees.

  • All commission requests are subject to approval or rejection at my own discretion.

  • I will not accept requests portraying or condoning discrimination or bigotry of any kind.

  • Commission requests containing adult content will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
